HYPHEN seeks to connect 18-30-year-olds to Service… with a Purpose… through Resources… for a Mission.

The HYPHEN (-) is a punctuation mark used to connect two parts of a word or phrase. The HYPHEN is also the symbol used to symbolize all of the smaller events that occur in the time between major events. For example, the HYPHEN is used on tombstones to represent all of the smaller events that occurred during the time between the major events of a person’s life (birth and death). All of the amazing experiences- the ups and the downs, the highs and the lows, the thrills and the disappointments, the satisfaction, and fulfillment- all of the details are symbolized by the small dash between the date-of-birth and the date-of-death.

HYPHEN was chosen as the name for our Young Adults Ministry because it represents the transitory phase of life that occurs between childhood and adulthood. It represents a time of transition when you are leaving the “care-free” phase of childhood when others were responsible for your care and provision, and entering the phase of life called adulthood when you become SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for every decision and its consequences. It represents the time of life when you are choosing a career path; looking for a life partner; beginning to make financial decisions; seeking opportunities to make an impact- to make a difference.
